Umbrella

Umbrella (2020) is a painting inspired by the work of William-Adolphe Bouguereau and reinterprets Christian iconography. In this piece, a black woman sits in a hieratic position, dressed in a thick drapery. She presents an air of tranquility, surrounded by several children, symbolizing responsibility. This serenity contrasts with the surrounding chaos, creating visual tension. The work explores the correlation between maternal relationships and the determining role of transmission. Umbrella is a striking example of Kando's ability to fuse different artistic styles and provoke deep reflection on the themes of peace, responsibility and transformation.
