Inspired by Marie Joseph Angélique
CALL FOR ARTISTS
Call for Artists/ Live painting!
On February 17th and 18th, the museum is hosting a live painting session titled "Inspired by Marie Joseph Angélique" to create its third citizen collection. Participants will be invited to create a painted work inspired by this enslaved woman with a tragic destiny.
Here is her story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KN5iOplwi5Y
This project, drawing inspiration from the tragic fate of Marie-Josèphe Angélique, continues the initiatives undertaken by the Afromusée over the past two years. Following the successes of previous editions dedicated to Mandela in 2021 and the Coloured Women's Club of Montreal in 2023, we are excited to explore, in 2024, the history of Marie-Josèphe Angélique, who is a powerful symbol of Black resistance and the quest for freedom.
The museum provides the canvas, easel, and compensation of $200 per participant. The artist should bring their paints and tools such as brushes and spatulas.
To participate, please send us your first name, last name, email, phone number, and a short introduction that includes your motivations along with your photo if desired, to: firstname.lastname@example.org
The call for applications ends on January 28th, 2024
